Over 100,000 Chinese laborers were used by the British Army to dig trenches on the Western Front.


The first world war began in August 1914. World War 1 started because Germany wanted to become more powerful and take all the land. They declared war on Russia. Britain entered the war to help Belgium against Germany. America got involve when the Lusitanian was sunk.

About the play:

The play is set in the trenches at Saint-Quentin, France during the World War 1. The main character is Stanhope a brave captain who leads the "best company" during war. Drama starts when Raleigh, a young and naive soldier arrives.
